Blue is Bound for Nationals!

After a stellar performance from Blue at the Waukegan ORCS, the team received a bid to the National Tournament in Orlando, FL. Out of hundreds of schools and teams competing in AMTA mock trial, only the top 48 teams were invited to attend the national tournament this year.

At Waukegan ORCS, Blue overcame fierce competition and received third place and a bid to the national tournament. Additionally, Katy Karayannis received an attorney award and Brandon Black received a witness award. Congratulations!

Blue’s flight for Orlando departs this Thursday and they will return next Monday. Good luck to the team, and congratulations on a fantastic season!

Illini Invitational Results

Thank you to everyone who participated in and judged the 2013 Illini Invitational this past weekend. This year’s tournament was the most competitive yet, with 33 phenomenal teams from across the nation. A huge thank you to Tournament Chair Arjun Sharma and Co-Chair Bianca Ciarroni – without your efforts, none of this would have been possible.

All three Illinois teams put on  great performance as well. Our Blue team finished in first place and our Orange team in 7th.

Special congratulations to Sam Holt, Noe Navar and Claire Mellish for winning Outstanding Witness awards and to Katy Karayannis for winning an Outstanding Attorney award.

Banquet and Elections

Congratulations to Blue on an impressive performance at Nationals this past weekend! With their last tournament of the season out of the way, it’s time to celebrate and prepare for the beginning of next school year.

The Trial Team Banquet will be held this Sunday, April 21st, from 4-6 PM at Biaggi’s Italian Restaurant in Champaign. We’ll celebrate a successful season with slideshows, speeches, and of course, lots of Italian food.

Elections for next year’s executive board will be held this Wednesday, April 17th at 7:30 at the law school. All current members are encouraged to attend and vote for the future of the organization!

The Team Goes to Nationals

This past weekend the Blue team placed FIRST at the Open Round Championship Series and will be attending nationals in Washington D.C.!  The national tournament takes place in April, and the team is busy working hard and preparing.

This weekend, the team won every single ballot and went 8-0.  Ian Vitalis ranked first on every single ballot and got an Outstanding Attorney Award with 20 ranks.  Katy Karayannis got an Outstanding Attorney Award with 19 ranks.  Brandon Black got an Outstanding Witness Award for his portrayal of Carey Connor.

A special THANK YOU to Coach James Huff for all his hard work this season.  We are forever grateful for his dedication to our team!

Check back in April for the NATIONALS results!

Regionals

Good luck to Blue and Orange at Regionals this weekend! The teams are competing in Joliet, Illinois, coming off of a successful trio of tournaments including first place at the Illini Invitational, second place at the Rebel Trojan All-In Tournament, and a handful of individual awards. Bears competes next weekend in Southbend, Indiana.

Second Semester

With the end of winter break approaching quickly, the team has a lot of work to do starting next week! We are thrilled to be hosting the Illini Invitational next weekend, January 19th and 20th. (We are still looking for judges! Contact Amyna Visram at illinoistournamentchair@gmail.com with any questions). The very next weekend, January 26th-27th, will be another tournament. Blue will be traveling to Las Vegas for the Rebel Trojan All-In Tournament, and Orange and Bears will be attending Loras College’s National Invitational.

Coming off of a fantastic first semester, it will be a challenge for the team to keep up the good work and hit the ground running this semester. You can read about our last two tournaments in the November-December Newsletter. But with such a talented team, including our November mocker of the month Hannah Oswald, and our December mocker of the month Brandon Black, there is no doubt that second semester will be just as successful!

End of October

We’d like to wrap up the month by highlighting some of the progress that our teams have made, both as individuals and as a group.

Congratulations to Fallon Faia, October’s Mocker of the Month, and the first of the 2012-2013 season. Fallon competed with Team Fire, and is now playing a witness role on Blue.

Also, the second issue of our monthly newsletter is now available! Check it out, because it’s been a busy month! You can also view the other issues here.
